CLOTHING ...

The dress is often a mirror of a certain social status and is closely linked, therefore, the characteristics of a historical period and culture surrounding it. How
will, therefore, women's fashion in the Middle Ages? What are the most common items of clothing?

Generally, the clothes that make women's clothing are very similar to those of men with regard to cut and design. However, it is possible to stop to observe more closely the characteristics of the clothes and accessories worn by women.
In particular, one can consider some types of clothes and more popular.
tunic was one of the most common items of clothing and was divided into two different types: the normal one was merely a garment down to mid-calf, while composed, appeared around 1180, was characterized by a tight bodice, a wide band that emphasized life and a long skirt open on both sides. This head flung the female figure and draw the shape of the hips, stomach and back. The neck becomes gradually wider and more rounded, long sleeves and flared from the elbow. The robes were those of the most beautiful sciaminto, with embossed bodice, pleated skirt on the bottom, adorned with embroidery and braids.
To be even more elegant, a woman had to complete the tunic with a wide leather belt, braided silk or linen. It was not easy seat belt: it was made a first round the waist, a node on the kidneys, then a second round to the sides, a new node at the basin and finally dropped their ends two bands that are equal to the ground.
Socks: were similar to those of men, but they can not be attached to belt of trousers, were always held up by garters.
Shoes: could be of various types: high or low, open or closed, with or without the flap, leather, felt, fabric, lined with fur. Fashion, however, preferred the tiny feet, heels enough tall, waving a way forward and carefully studied.
Surcot It was a typical mantle female, a sort of semi-circular pilgrim that was not closed on the shoulder as that of men, but on the chest, with grommets and laces to which he devoted more and pack carefully. From the twelfth century, the cloaks were closed with double buttons that can be slipped into two loops. The buttons could be very different both in shape (flat or spherical) for the material (leather, fabric, bone, horn, ivory, metal). The mantle, therefore, lent itself to being decorated in a particularly inventive and imaginative.

It is possible that the hair of a woman is the reflection of his social status? During the medieval period
how to wear my hair varied, first of all, depending on age: the girls and young women wore them with a parting in the middle and two braids running down his chest, often runs up to the knees, or further elongated pendants hanging from each end. Around 1200 this fashion tends, however, is said to disappear and a new way to wear their hair: they are shorter and are held in place by a headband. Absolutely it was important to cover their heads with a veil linen or silk before you leave home or go to church. Things were different for widows and sisters: these women, in fact, had to wear a wimple, a hat that concealed not only the hair but also the temples, neck and upper torso. Through this brief schematic
we saw as the way they dress or, more generally, to take care of your body respond to the laws of the time.
